Path Tracing Optimization for The Witcher 3 Remastered, v2.0
============================================================

WHAT IT DOES
- Path tracing uses 1 light bounce instead of 2 (hair keeps the vanilla 4).
  The biggest gain is indoors, where path tracing is slowest.
- Path tracing: optional regular shadows instead of ray-traced ones
  (about +10%). With path tracing on, the game still runs ray-traced
  shadows on top of it; this switch skips that work.
- Ray tracing: optional caustics switch (Off = about +5%).

INSTALL
Vortex, or copy the "bin" folder into the game folder. Files:
  bin\x64_dx12\xinput9_1_0.dll
  bin\config\platform\pc\RTOptimization.ini
  bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\pt_optimization.xml
Start the game as usual. On the first launch the mod prepares the path tracing
shader before the game starts (about a second) and saves it as
bin\x64_dx12\rt_pt_shader_*.dxil. It is built on your PC from the game's own
shader with the game's own compiler; nothing from CD PROJEKT RED is included.

SETTINGS
In game: Options > Video > Graphics, at the bottom. Changes apply instantly;
labels follow the game's text language.
Path tracing:
  Light bounces            1 (mod default), 2 = vanilla, 3-4 for high-end GPUs
  Bounced light brightness 1.05 by default, 1.0 = vanilla
  Hair bounces             4 = vanilla, 1-6
  Ray-traced shadows On = vanilla, Off = regular shadows, faster
  Sky light / Moon light brightness of light from the sky and the moon
Ray tracing:
  Caustics On = vanilla, Off = faster, no light patterns from water
Defaults for bounces and brightness come from
bin\config\platform\pc\RTOptimization.ini.

UNINSTALL
Delete from bin\x64_dx12: xinput9_1_0.dll, rt_pt_shader_*.dxil, rt_optimizer.log
Delete bin\config\platform\pc\RTOptimization.ini
Delete bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\pt_optimization.xml

NOTES
- Tested with game versions 5.00b and 5.00c (GOG). After a game patch the shader is
  rebuilt automatically on the next start. The mod finds the code it
  patches by signatures, so other builds with the same code (e.g. Steam)
  should work too. Anything it can't find is left untouched and listed in
  bin\x64_dx12\rt_optimizer.log.
- Uses the file name xinput9_1_0.dll: remove other mods with the same file
  (for example the old RTXGI Setting Unlocker).
- The ray-traced shadows switch keeps your ray tracing shadows setting as it is;
  it only acts while path tracing is on.
