CHOICE IMPACT 1.2.1 - know what your dialogue choices really do
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered / Complete Edition, patch 5.0 or newer (built for 5.01),
base game + Hearts of Stone + Blood and Wine + the free DLC quests. Steam, GOG and Epic.
Next-gen 4.04: works unofficially with one extra install step (see "ON NEXT-GEN 4.04" below).
Not for the old 1.32 version or next-gen 4.00-4.03: there the game shows a script error at
launch (remove the mod to clear it). Your version is shown in a corner of the main menu.

WHAT IT DOES
Next to every dialogue option, a small coloured tag tells you what picking it leads to:
grey No lasting impact - pick freely
silver Flavour only (different reply, nothing remembered)
green Minor lasting effect (an NPC remembers, a later line changes)
gold Reward (gold, items, Gwent cards, bets, haggling)
blue Quest (branch, NPC fate inside the quest, quest failed/unlocked)
orange Character (an important NPC lives/dies/leaves, Kaer Morhen allies)
pink Romance (Triss, Yennefer, Keira, Shani, Syanna, ...)
purple World state (Radovid/Dijkstra/Emhyr, Skellige's ruler, Temeria)
red Ending (Ciri's ending, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine endings) /
Lethal (fight to the death, point of no return)
Coverage: all 7,085 of the game's voiced choice lines are annotated (free DLC quests included),
1,320+ of them with a real consequence.

SETTINGS (Settings > Mods > Choice Impact - in the main menu or the pause menu)
Display: Full tags (default) / Spoiler-light hints / Off
Hide no-impact tags: hide the grey and silver tags, so only choices that matter are marked

INSTALL WITH VORTEX (easiest)
1. In Vortex, make sure The Witcher 3 is the managed game.
2. On the mod page click "Mod Manager Download", OR drag the downloaded zip onto the
"Drop File(s)" area at the bottom of Vortex's Mods page.
3. Click Install, then Enable. Vortex deploys it for you (if it asks, click Deploy).
4. Start the game. That's it - no Script Merger or load order changes needed.

INSTALL BY HAND
1. Open your Witcher 3 game folder - the one that contains the folders bin, content and mods:
Steam: right-click the game > Manage > Browse local files
             (usually ...\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3)
GOG: Galaxy > the game > settings icon > Manage installation > Show folder
(usually ...\GOG Galaxy\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY)
     Epic: usually ...\Epic Games\TheWitcher3
(No "mods" folder there yet? That's fine, it is created in step 2.)
2. Open the zip and drag the "mods" and "bin" folders into that game folder.
If Windows asks, choose "Replace the files in the destination", and click Continue if it
asks for administrator permission. Nothing of the game itself is replaced.
3. It must end up exactly like this:
     The Witcher 3\
       bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\modChoiceImpact.xml
content\ (the game's own folder, untouched)
mods\modChoiceImpact\content\ (a scripts folder + 18 language files named en, de, ru, ...)
4. Start the game. The first start after installing takes a little longer (scripts compile).

THE #1 MISTAKE: an extra folder in between, for example
     The Witcher 3\ChoiceImpact-1.2.1\mods\... WRONG
     The Witcher 3\mods\mods\modChoiceImpact\... WRONG
     The Witcher 3\mods\modChoiceImpact\content\... RIGHT
Windows' "Extract All..." and 7-Zip's "Extract to ChoiceImpact-1.2.1\" create such a folder.
Move the "mods" and "bin" folders up so they sit right next to the game's own "content" folder.

ON NEXT-GEN 4.04 (unofficial, not tested by me)
Patch 4.04 only loads mod menus that are listed in two text files. After installing:
1. Open bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\ in the game folder.
2. Open dx11filelist.txt in Notepad and add this at the end (keep the semicolon):
     modChoiceImpact.xml;
3. Do the same in dx12filelist.txt. Save both and restart the game.
The tags work even without this step (defaults: full tags). On 4.04 the tags are English-only
and the menu may show raw names like "ChoiceImpact_Mode", because the language files use the
newer 5.0 format. Patch 5.0+ needs none of this.

HOW TO CHECK IT WORKS
- Talk to any NPC that gives you dialogue options (e.g. a merchant or the first NPC you meet).
Each option should end with a coloured [tag], like [No lasting impact] or [Reward].
- Pause the game > Settings > Mods: there should be an entry "Choice Impact".

UPDATING FROM AN OLDER VERSION
Install 1.2.1 over the old version and overwrite everything. In Vortex, choose "Replace" when
asked. By hand, copy mods and bin again and say Yes to replacing files. The old nameless menu
entry from 1.0.0 turns into Settings > Mods > Choice Impact by itself. Saves are not affected.
Installed 1.0.0 by hand and now switching to Vortex? Delete the old mods\modChoiceImpact folder
and bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\modChoiceImpact.xml first, then install with Vortex.

TROUBLESHOOTING / FAQ
No tags next to choices
  - Close the game completely after installing and start it again.
  - Check the folder layout in INSTALL BY HAND step 3 (the #1 mistake above).
  - Check Settings > Mods > Choice Impact: Display must not be "Off".
  - "Hide no-impact tags" is on? Then grey/silver choices have no tag - that is intended.
  - A few identical-looking menus (same words, different outcome) get no tag or a general
one like [Reward] rather than a guess.
"Choice Impact" missing in Settings > Mods, or the menu shows blank names
  - The bin folder was not copied, or went to the wrong place. The file
bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\modChoiceImpact.xml must be inside the game folder.
  - Blank names: the 18 language files are missing from mods\modChoiceImpact\content,
or an old 1.0.0 copy is still installed somewhere. Reinstall the latest version and overwrite.
  - On next-gen 4.04: see "ON NEXT-GEN 4.04" above (two filelist lines are needed).
  - Even without the menu, the tags work with the default settings.
Script error popup when the game starts
  - Most common cause: the mod is installed twice (e.g. an old copy in a nested folder, or
once by Vortex and once by hand). Keep exactly one mods\modChoiceImpact folder.
  - Make sure your game is up to date (patch 5.0 or newer; 4.04 works unofficially, 4.00-4.03
    and 1.32 cannot run it).
  - Another mod that rewrites the dialogue screen can clash. Remove mods one by one to find it.
  - Still broken? Report it on the mod page with: a screenshot of the full popup text, your game
version (bottom corner of the main menu), Steam/GOG/Epic, and the list of folders in "mods".
Controller: can't scroll down to "Choice Impact" in Settings > Mods
  - The game's own Mods menu has trouble scrolling with a controller when you have many mod menus
(about 10 or more). Use mouse and keyboard once to change the settings, or use a fix such as
the "Mod Menu Fixed and Organized" mod.
Language
  - Choices are recognised in every game language.
  - The tags follow the game's TEXT language. They are translated into Polish, Russian,
Spanish (also used for Latin American Spanish), Turkish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional
Chinese; every other language shows English tags.
Other mods
  - No vanilla script is replaced (it uses next-gen script annotations), so Script Merger is
not needed and it works next to almost every other mod.
Wrong tag on a choice?
  - Please report it with the exact choice text and the quest name.

UNINSTALL
Delete these from the game folder (or click Remove in Vortex):
  mods\modChoiceImpact
  bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\modChoiceImpact.xml
ChoiceImpact_README.txt (only if you extracted it there)
Saves are not affected - you can add or remove the mod at any time.

HOW THE DATA WAS MADE
Not from wikis. Every scene and quest graph of the game was parsed from the official REDkit files, so each choice
is linked to the game facts it sets, the scene exit it takes, and every later quest that checks those facts.
Each quest was then researched and independently re-verified. Mistakes are still possible - please report them
with the choice text and quest name.

CHANGELOG
1.2.1 Spanish and Turkish translations of all tags and of the settings menu (Latin American
Spanish uses the Spanish one; names follow the official game localisation).
1.2.0 Free DLC quests are now covered: Fool's Gold, Contract: Missing Miners, Contract: Skellige's
Most Wanted, Where the Cat and Wolf Play... and the DLC barbers (130 new choice lines).
Polish translation of all tags and of the settings menu (names follow the official
Polish game localisation). New tags also translated into Russian and Chinese.
Next-gen 4.04: install note for the settings menu (two filelist lines), see above.
1.1.0 Settings menu now sits under Settings > Mods with the other mods (was a separate, nameless entry)
and shows proper names. Settings defaults are stored on first start, so the toggles show
what the mod is actually doing.
Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese translations (names follow the official
         game localisation).
Fixed wrong tags on choices whose text also appears elsewhere (about 90 in English, up to
~330 in other languages): such lines are now told apart by the other options in the same
menu; when two identical menus lead to different outcomes of the same kind, a generic
category tag (e.g. [Reward]) is shown instead of a guess.
31 annotation corrections from a full re-audit (e.g. barber and Corvo Bianco butler lines,
q107 rescue outcomes, Aerondight riddle hint no longer counts wrong answers).
Tags on greyed-out (already chosen) or unavailable choices are dimmed like the choice.
The database now loads during the loading screen instead of at the first dialogue.
  1.0.0 First release.
